Overview

New bone grafting materials have provided significant improvements in the treatment options for dentistry, periodontics, oral surgery, orthopedics and spinal procedures. Clinicians now have effective ways to treat defects caused by trauma or disease without a second surgical harvesting procedure. The use of Cerasorb as a bone regeneration material also eliminates the use of cadaveric or animal based materials which may present additional concerns.

Cerasorb®, a unique synthetic bone regeneration material, has been developed based on thirty years of research.  Cerasorb has achieved the goal of being a material with the optimal combination of chemical, engineering and biological properties. These efforts have resulted in a pure-phase β-tricalcium phosphate matrix with a unique interconnecting porosity that allows it to be completely resorbed while simultaneously creating new bone formation.  Scores of scientific studies over the past decade in thousands of patients have demonstrated that the unique Cerasorb® material maximizes physiological compatibility. As a result, it produces bone quality comparable to patients’ harvested bone, the gold standard for grafting techniques.

In addition, as a synthetic material, Cerasorb avoids any potential immunological or infection risks from materials of biological origin. Successful use in more than 150,000 cases has shown that Cerasorb® dissolves ph-neutrally and is completely and simultaneously resorbed as new bone is formed.

Additional R&D work by the scientists at Curasan have optimized the original Cerasorb material in terms of  surface area, porosity, resorption and degradation to create a family of  Cerasorb® product forms for a wide variety clinical indications. Most of these unique products are now available in the US for use in dentistry, spine surgery and orthopedics.

Furthermore, Cerasorb® products handle and fill defects easily, forming a smooth consistency when combined with blood. For broad clinical applications, Cerasorb® DENTAL comes in five different granule types/sizes and is supplied in five (5) individual double sterile glass vials in blisters per package in amounts from 0.5 cc to 2.0 cc.
